How much privacy do you have? Not much. You provide personal information in exchange for goods and services almost daily. When you open an account, receive medical care, enroll in school or gain employment, you lend identity information – such as a Social Security number, a driver's license number or other third-party identifiers such as an insurance number – to organizations and it is used to enroll you in a database of customers, patients, students or employees. Chances are if you simply went about life in the U.S., your personal private information is readily available in the public domain; and your identity and privacy are at risk.

During 2009, data breaches resulted in the exposure of more than 220 million personal records containing Social Security numbers, medical records and credit card information. Some of the companies to whom you provide your information actually sell it to other organizations, including information resellers that compile detailed profiles on consumers and make the data available for a fee. Birth certificates are public records in more than a dozen states and public information databases contain enough information for individuals to impersonate others and commit identity fraud. You may have even shared personal information on social networking sites without thinking about who could access and misuse it.

Today protecting your privacy and identity has become nearly impossible. However, there is a way to prevent others from using your personal information to commit identity fraud. This is possible through certification in TASCET.

Certification is a simple process that occurs when you lend your identity information to organizations that participate in the TASCET Identity Network. These include financial institutions, medical providers, employers or government agencies that certify your identity in order to accurately identify and protect you. Once your identity is certified, if another individual tried to apply for services or credentials using your personal information within a participating organization, the attempt would be stopped. Your identity is intact and organizations are able to provide services or credentials without the concern that their customers or applicants are fraudulently using a multiple identity.

Certifying your identity protects you from identity fraud by ensuring that, regardless of the amount of your private information available, only you own your identity.

TASCET does not collect Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers or other identifiers given you by public or private organizations. While numerous organizations today sell your personal information, TASCET does not data mine or sell information; and we do not monitor transactions.
