The U.S. government is tightening restrictions on border crossings and requiring the use of more secure credentials for identification. As a result, existing Tribal ID cards are coming under greater scrutiny at the same time as Indian Nations work to maintain their sovereign rights and protect the privacy of their members.

TASCET enables federally recognized Tribes to issue a new secure identification credential for enrolled members, a Certified Tribal ID. Issuance of the Certified Tribal ID incorporates identifying information, or physical characteristics, and certification through TASCET to meet and exceed state-issued credentials.

Certification in TASCET confirms a unique identity, a Certified Tribal Identity, and enables the issuance of a Certified Tribal identifier that is not duplicated within any Tribe. Each Tribe can use this identifier for numerous identification purposes such as for disbursements, voting or to uniquely identify Tribal members within Indian Health Services.

Issuing a strong identification credential for members allows Tribes to seek renewed acceptance of Tribal IDs as a primary form of identification for state and federal purposes, protecting the sovereignty of the Tribe and the privacy of each member.

TASCET also enables Tribes to meet the secure, real-time identity verification required by DHS for the Enhanced Tribal Card (ETC) through a Tribal-owned database. The Certified Tribal ID can be configured to meet the requirements of the ETC (including RFID technology) to allow the Certified Tribal ID to be used for border crossings. This solution enables the Tribe to control the ownership and usage of the members’ identity data, protecting the sovereignty of the Tribe and safeguarding the personal information of members.
