PID PROJECT
The true intent of REAL ID is to create an identification card that allows access to federal buildings and planes. It was not intended to enhance or repair issues related to driver licenses. The existing driver’s license infrastructure was not built for REAL ID and will take billions of dollars and many years to update and reconfigure in order to meet compliance.
There is an alternative that meets the intent of REAL ID at a significantly lower cost. The solution is Personal ID, or PID. The PID is a state-issued ID card citizens can use for identification and federal REAL ID purposes that is not tied to the driver’s license infrastructure.
