Identity fraud is growing most rapidly among young adults and the damage can impact them well beyond graduation. Students often have no credit history and fail to check credit records. They are vulnerable based on their willingness to share personal identity information on social networking sites or to participate in promotions on campus. TASCET enables educational institutions to play a key role in protecting students from identity fraud, while at the same time gaining a secure process for identifying students and safeguarding their privacy.
A Certified Student Identity is the result of a process that incorporates physical characteristics and certification in TASCET to uniquely identify students and protect them from fraud. Notification of a unique identity or an alias attempt is provided to ensure that the individual is not fraudulently using a multiple identity to enroll, take an exam or access a student’s records.
Certification enables the issuance of a Certified Student Identifier, a unique number that binds the individual to his or her student records. The Certified Student Identifier can be used in place of the Social Security number or other less-secure student identifiers to protect the privacy and confidentiality of students and their educational records. Certification provides important benefits for reporting student attendance under the Student and Visitor Exchange (SEVIS) Program and becomes a valuable means for identifying students for tests and post-graduate entrance exams.
